Abstract This study explored Mathayom 1 (M.1 or Grade 7) teachers’ and students’ attitudes towards the textbook called “New Close-Up Student’s Book 1 by National Geographic Learning” implemented in an English program (EP) under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). There were two participant groups: three EP teachers and thirty-five M.1 EP students, both of which used the book in the 2025 academic year. Two research instruments were employed: semi-structured teacher interviews and a student questionnaire. Content analysis was applied with qualitative data, and descriptive statistics was applied with quantitative data. As the results suggest, both the teachers and students had positive attitudes towards the textbook. The teacher regarded the book’s design and organization as its greatest strengths but also raised concerns over its difficulty level, limited support for skills practice, and the need for materials adaptation. The students, however, rated focused skills highest, suggesting that the book helped improve their reading. Meanwhile, they ranked the focused language content lowest, pointing out vocabulary difficulty. This study indicates that the effectiveness of the textbook does not only depend on the teacher’s role in classroom application, but it also relies on the book’s alignment with students’ proficiency levels.
