| Abstract | This mixed-methods research study aims to explore Grade 11 students’ satisfaction and investigate students’ perception toward the implementation of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in learning English speaking in a Thai government school. For this purpose, 39 students were selected as the participants. The students were asked to complete the satisfaction questionnaire. Then, 9 students from the participants were selected to provide their views on the implementation of TBLT in learning to speak English. The results from satisfaction questionnaire showed that the students were satisfied with the implementation of TBLT since the students’ overall satisfaction was at a very high level of satisfaction (M = 4.72, SD = 0.331). Moreover, the interview results show three major themes: benefits of implementing TBLT in learning English speaking, challenges of implementing TBLT in learning English speaking, and suggestions for improving the implementation of TBLT. Students perceived that TBLT provided them opportunities for authentic English use, increased speaking confidence, collaborative learning, vocabulary and speaking development, and engagement. On the other hand, they also reported challenges related to linguistic barriers, affective barriers, pronunciation concerns, and task organization. The suggestions to improve the implementation of TBLT were providing more authentic speaking tasks, pre-task language support, more speaking practice time, and more varied and engaging activities. In conclusion, Grade 11 students experienced a positive perception of TBLT as a helpful method to learn speaking in English. |
