| Abstract | This qualitative case study explored English writing proficiency and perceptions of English Medium Instruction (EMI) among ten Thai Grade 12 students at a selective STEM-focused high school. Data from questionnaires, writing tasks, and interviews showed that three students reached the Advanced level, while seven were at the Upper Intermediate level. The students showed strengths in organizing ideas, responding to the task, using technical vocabulary, and writing about familiar STEM topics. However, they still had difficulties with grammatical accuracy, academic vocabulary, and formal academic style. The interviews showed that EMI helped students feel more confident, less anxious, and more familiar with English sentence patterns. However, their writing still showed clear language limitations, especially in accuracy and academic expression. The study concludes that EMI can support writing development, but it should be combined with explicit language teaching, academic vocabulary support, model texts, and regular feedback to be more effective. |
