Abstract This study aimed to investigate the perceived needs and problems of English language skills of Quality Assurance (QA) personnel in the food industry. Thirteen QA staff members were surveyed in the study through a structured questionnaire assessing necessity, difficulty, and training preferences of language skills. The findings indicate that all four language skills are required in the workplace. Writing was identified as the most necessary skill, particularly for formal communication tasks. However, when perceived needs and problems were compared, speaking emerged as the most problematic skill, especially in real-time interactions with foreign auditors and clients, revealing a gap between required performance and current proficiency. Regarding the training preferences, the majority of the participants favored practical, communication-oriented approaches, including basic conversation, interactive activities, and a combination of native and local instructors. These findings suggest that English training programs for QA personnel should prioritize spoken communication and real-world, task-based instruction to better align with workplace demands.
