| Abstract | The demand for high-yielding and high-sugar-content sugarcane varieties has been rising. Nakhon Sawan Field Crops Research Center developed a sugarcane variety, DOA Nakhon Sawan1, derived from a cross between Q76 and CP63-588 in the year 2010. From crossing, the NSUT10-266 clone was selected and evaluated between the years 2011-2021. This clone exhibited a high commercial cane sugar (CCS) content of 15.77, which was 10 and 7% higher than those of the LK92-11 and DOA Khon Kaen3 varieties, respectively. The cane yield of NSUT10-266 was 18.0 tons/rai, which was not different from those of the LK92-11 and DOA Khon Kaen3 varieties, but its sugar yield reached 17.6 tons CCS/rai, which was higher than that of LK92-11 by 18% but was comparable to DOA Khon Kaen3. Additionally, this sugarcane clone demonstrated moderate resistance to red rot wilt diseases and strong adaptability. The Department of Agriculture approved this sugarcane clone as the DOA Nakhon Sawan1 variety on July 12, 2022. This variety exhibited high-yield and high-sugar content and was suitable for planting on loamy, clay loam, and clay soils in rainfed areas. From the years 2022-2025, this variety has been promoted to farmers, associations, and sugar factories, and it was mostly accepted due to its fast growth, high yield, and high sugar content. DOA Nakhon Sawan1 was considered a high-potential variety and valuable alternative for increasing farmers' income. |
