| Abstract | Purpose: A quasi-experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of an Emotional Quotient (EQ) training program among fifty multicultural freshmen nursing students at Assumption University. The objectives were to assess baseline EQ levels, implement the training program, and evaluate the effectiveness of the EQ training program on enhancing the EQ levels of participants. Research design, data and methodology: The Emotional Quotient Questionnaire developed by Mental Health Department, Ministry of Public Health, measuring three components: Goodness (self-awareness & self- regulation, empathy, and responsibility), Wisdom (motivation, decision making & problem solving, and relationship), and Happiness (self-esteem, life satisfaction, and peace of mind) was used for assessment. Training activities included interactive lectures, group discussions, role-plays, reflection, and guided journaling, with four weekly sessions, each lasting two hours. Data were analyzed using SPSS, employing descriptive statistics and inferential test (Paired t-test) at a significance level of p < .05. Results: Findings indicated that the training program significantly improved overall EQ scores compared to baseline (p < .05), particularly in Goodness, Wisdom, and Happiness. However, the empathy subcomponent under Goodness showed no significant change (p = .098). Conclusion: Findings suggest that structured EQ training can enhance emotional competencies among nursing students, supporting its integration into nursing education. |
