| Abstract | This study investigates whether LGBTQ+ medical interpreters face discrimination compared to their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts. Using a mixed-methods analysis, including surveys and interviews, the study examines the unique experiences and instances of discrimination reported by LGBTQ+ interpreters. The findings indicate that LGBTQ+ interpreters report higher instances of discrimination and, by illustrating the unique workplace challenges encountered by LGBTQ+ interpreters, they highlight the need for targeted interventions and training in healthcare settings. The implications of these findings are discussed, with recommendations for future research and practical strategies to improve inclusivity in medical interpreting environments. |
