| Abstract | This research compared physicochemical characteristics of bagasse pith versus fiber for biomass power generation. Testing revealed that bagasse fiber contains higher percentages of fixed carbon, volatile matter, carbon, and hydrogen than pith. Fiber also demonstrated superior heating values (19.53 versus 14.28 MJ/kg). The study found pith contained significantly elevated inorganic content, particularly silicon at approximately 21.15%, roughly 19 times higher than fiber. Pith ash remained unmelted at 1,500 C due to high SiO2 content, while fiber ash softened at 1,100 C. Fiber exhibits better fuel properties; the researchers recommend separating pith before fuel use to minimize ash management complications and enhance thermal efficiency, while pith could serve construction, paper, or agricultural applications. |
