| Abstract | This study investigated seasonal nutrient dynamics and eutrophication risk in BuengRachanok, a shallow tropical lake in Thailand. Surface water samples were collected from fivemonitoring stations representing inlet, mid-lake, and outlet zones during the rainy, winter, andsummer seasons (based on three single-event grab sampling campaigns). Total nitrogen content(TN), total phosphorus content (TP), dissolved oxygen (DO), and suspended solids (TSS) wereanalyzed for spatial and seasonal variability. The outlet station exhibited the strongest seasonalamplification, particularly during summer (TN = 23.8 mg/L; TP = 0.21 mg/L; TSS = 2,617.5 mg/L).TN:TP mass ratios consistently exceeded the phosphorus limitation threshold across stationsand seasons; however, absolute TP concentrations exceeded management-relevant levels only atthe outlet during summer, where Carlson’s Trophic State Index (TSI) indicated hypereutrophicconditions. A composite Eutrophication Risk Index (ERI) identified the summer outlet conditionas the dominant multi-parameter hotspot (ERI = 2.43), reflecting concurrent nitrogen enrichment,suspended solids amplification, and localized phosphorus elevation. These findings indicatethat eutrophication risk in Bueng Rachanok is concentrated at the outlet zone during summer(ERI = 2.43; TSI = hypereutrophic), suggesting that catchment-level phosphorus source controltargeting this zone and season represents the most critical management priority. |
