| Abstract | Food waste is a major concern for countries striving to achieve Sustainable DevelopmentGoal 12. This study examines consumption behaviours, food waste management behaviours,and their influencing factors in Thailand during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. A survey of900 randomly selected individuals was conducted using questionnaires. Results indicated thatfood waste production was lower during the pandemic than at present, with household wasteranging from 100 to 500 grams per person daily. Respondents exhibited moderate levels ofprevention, optimization, and disposal behaviours, but low levels of recycling or disposal forenergy recovery activities. Significant factors influencing food waste management includedgender, age, generation, occupation, income, household size, household type, and localadministrative area. Generation Z differed significantly from Baby Boomers in preventionand optimization behaviours, and from other generations in recycling. Occupation also playeda key role; specifically, homemakers exhibited different patterns in food waste prevention,optimization, and recycling compared to other groups. These findings highlight that behaviouralimprovements during the COVID-19 pandemic were not sustained, and significant barriersremain in recycling or disposal for energy recovery. Consequently, this study is essential forinforming targeted interventions and policies to reduce household food waste and supportsustainable consumption in Thailand. |
