Abstract | Tobacco poisoning has previously been recognized as having adverse effects on health. This study investigated the salivary cotinine levels different between growing season periodand to identify factors that can predict changes in salivary cotinine levels. This cross-sectionalstudy included 62 male tobacco farmers. Data on tobacco exposure were collected using aquestionnaire, and salivary cotinine levels. A univariable logistic regression analysis revealedthat alcohol consumption was significantly associated with salivary cotinine levels. The salivarycotinine levels of male tobacco farmers at the end of the harvest season were significantly higherthan those at the beginning of the harvest season (p-value < 0.001). The findings indicate thatThai tobacco farmers are at risk of nicotine exposure. Interventions and measures to raiseawareness and reduce the risk of nicotine exposure among tobacco-farmers are required. |
