Abstract Thailand is becoming an aging society, with more than 14% of the population aged 65 or older (Ministry of Public Health, 2023). At the same time, the global elderly population continues to increase every year (United Nations, 2024). As a result, there is a growing demand for assistive devices that help elderly individuals and patients with limited mobility move safely in their daily activities. Caregivers also face physical strain when lifting or transferring patients. In my bachelor’s project, the first prototype of was developed to assist patient transfer between a bed, wheelchair, and toilet. Although the prototype demonstrated the basic lifting and transfer function a patient lift transfer chair, several limitations were identified during testing, including limited structural strength, uncomfortable seating, and difficulty in maneuvering. To better understand user needs, a survey was conducted with potential users and caregivers. The results showed that handle design plays an important role in pushing comfort and control. Therefore, this master’s project aims to improve the previous prototype by strengthening the structure, improving seating comfort, and redesigning the handle to enhance maneuverability and usability. The expected outcome is a safer, stronger, and more user-friendly transfer chair that supports both patients and caregivers.
