Abstract | The research objective was to study working conditions and problems encountered by foreign instructors in secondary schools administered by the office of the basic education commission in Bangkok. The population used 115 English foreign teachers. This research used checklist questionnaire. The analysis of the data used the software package. The statistical data was analyzed by using frequency and percentage. The result found 4 aspects of working conditions and problems of foreign instructors. 1) Curriculum, foreign instructors analyzed the curriculum by making sure they understood the content of the course anddesigned learning activities by preparing the teaching materials. The problem were the curriculum wasn’t clear and they didn’t work with Thai teachers to design learning activities. 2) Teaching, foreign instructors made the lesson plans, thought English by using multimedia and English worksheets/textbooks, created the atmosphere that made learning fun. The problem were they never worked with Thai teachers to make lesson plans, a large number of students in class made it difficult to teach, and there are too many students in one class. 3) Measurement and Assessment, foreign instructors designed benchmarks and student assessments, they assessed their students on student’s ability to communicate. The problem was school’s policy to reduce the number of students who fail exams, therefore they had to adjust their grades. 4) Extracurricular Activities, foreign instructors trained students to compete the Englishstory telling contest, offered students English camp and judged English-language contests. The problem was the school organizes too many activities. |
