Abstract | This bibliometric study explores the landscape of translation and interpreting research in Saudi Arabia, utilizing data obtained from the Web of Science (SSCI, SCI-E, and AHCI) and Scopus databases. This study was conducted to determine the publication trends, citation patterns, collaborative efforts, journal affiliations, historical developments, research areas, and funding sources at Saudi universities. Excel, Citespace, and VOSviewer were used to analyze and visualize the results, following rigorous criteria for selecting, analyzing and filtering data. The findings suggest that Saudi universities have made relatively few contributions to the field of translation and interpreting research in journals indexed by the Web of Science compared to the number in Scopus. However, it is worth noting that in 2022 there was a significant increase in the number of articles and collaborative efforts in this area. Notably, certain universities such as King Saud University, King Abdulaziz University, Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, and Najran University made relatively significant contributions to research in the field of translation and interpreting, more so than other Saudi institutions. The current research article reveals the diversity of publication outlets, ranging from specialized journals to interdisciplinary and educational publications, which indicates the multidisciplinary nature of the field and provides researchers with various platforms through which they can disseminate their work effectively. The findings reveal a need for increased research activity including incentivizing research, fostering collaboration, and seeking research grants to improve translation and interpreting research in Saudi Arabia. |
