Abstract Perilla (Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt.) is a native oilseed crop of high nutritional value, particularly rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and has been cultivated through generations in the upper northern region of Thailand. This study aimed to evaluate the morphological characteristics, yield components, and oil content of 52 perilla landraces collected from the upper north. The accessions were grown at the Pangda Royal Agricultural Station, Samoeng Tai Sub-district, Samoeng District, Chiang Mai Province, at an elevation of 540 meters above sea level. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was performed using day to maturity, seed yield, 1,000-seed weight, and oil content as variables. The results revealed that PC1 and PC2 together explained more than 84.80 % of the total variance. K-means clustering classified the accessions into three maturity groups: early maturity (< 162 days), medium maturity (162–195 days), and late maturity (> 195 days). Early-maturity accessions exhibited larger seed size and higher alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) content compared to medium- and late-maturity groups. Correlation analysis revealed that days to maturity was significantly and positively correlated with the number of branches (r=0.73**). However, seed oil content showed no significant correlation with days to maturity or morphological traits, contradicting the traditional farmer belief that late-maturing varieties produce superior oil yield. The findings of this study provide fundamental information useful for production planning, variety selection, and the development of perilla processing toward commercial vegetable oil and dietary supplement industries.
