| Abstract | This research addressed challenges in growth performance efficiency and mortality rates in rearing hybrid catfish. The experiment used 360 fish, randomly assigned to four treatment groups: a control (0% probiotics) and three experimental groups supplemented with probiotics at 3%, 5%, and 8% of the basal diet. The feeding trial lasted 120 days. Data were analyzed using Duncan's multiple range test at the 95% confidence level. Results showed that probiotic supplementation did not significantly affect dietary protein content (P>0.05); however, it significantly influenced fat content and microbial populations in the feed (P<0.05). The 8% probiotic group had the highest average body weight (714.53±7.86 g), while the 5% group had the lowest feed conversion ratio (FCR) at 1.90±0.31, indicating better feed efficiency than the control group. Survival rates in probiotic-supplemented groups ranged from 85.66–87.66%, which differed significantly from the control group (P<0.05). Hematological analysis revealed that probiotic supplementation increased red blood cell count in the 8% group (P<0.05), with elevated serum protein and immunoglobulin levels in all probiotic groups. Histological examination showed that the 5% probiotic group had significantly increased intestinal villus height (P<0.05). These findings indicate that dietary probiotic supplementation at 5–8% effectively promotes growth performance, improves feed utilization efficiency, and enhances intestinal morphology in hybrid catfish, thereby optimizing nutrient digestibility and absorption. This suggests that probiotics could serve as a beneficial dietary supplement for hybrid catfish aquaculture. |
