Abstract The research examines medicinal plant extracts as potential cancer treatments. Scientists tested extracts from two plants using water and ethanol solvents, creating four distinct extract types. The ethanolic extract from Chromolaena odorata demonstrated the highest phenolic content at 7.18 +/- 0.39 mg GAE/g DW. All extracts showed dose-dependent cytotoxic activity against both colorectal and bile duct cancer cell lines. IC50 values ranged from 0.58-1.51 mg/mL for colorectal cells and 0.65-1.42 mg/mL for bile duct cells. Normal oral cells showed greater resistance, with IC50 values of 1.03 to >2.5 mg/mL. Both plant extracts have potential as sources of bioactive compounds for anticancer development, though additional research including molecular mechanisms and clinical validation remains necessary.
