| Abstract | The elderly suicide mortality rates in Thailand is rising during the last decade. Suicide phenomena is generally originated from suicidal idea. This study aimed to estimate prevalence of suicidal idea among the elderly living in Bangkok. A cross-sectional study was conducted during January and March, 2017. A face to face interview was performed by standard questionnaire. Total population was 1,454 elderly people. Suicidal idea and depression were measured by Thai-version Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). The Thai-version UCLA Loneliness Scale (UCLA-LS) was used to measure loneliness. WHOQOL-BREF-Thai was used to measure quality of life (QoL). Prevalence of suicidal idea among the elderly living in Bangkok was 6.5%. Among 1,454 elderly, lonely was found in 10.4% and depression was found in 6.88%. According to QOL classification, 7.22% of total elderly had poor quality of life. The elderly living in Bangkok had the prevalence of suicidal idea higher than other studies conducted in Asian countries. |
