Abstract | The objectives of this research are 1. To study the Seven Sapaya (Sappaya 7) principles in Theravāda Buddhism. 2. To examine the current conditions of the development of a happiness-oriented temple at Wat Phothisomphon, Mak Khaeng Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani Province. 3. To explore the application of the Seven Sapaya principles in the development of Wat Phothisomphon as a happiness-oriented temple. This research follows a qualitative approach, utilizing document analysis and interviews with 28 key informants (monks and laypeople). The data were collected using structured interviews and analyzed through a comparative method to identify relationships among the findings. The results of the study reveal thatThe research findings indicate that the seven factors of Sappaya facilitate Buddhist practice, including: Avasa Sappaya (suitable dwelling), Phocana Sappaya (appropriate food), Puggala Sappaya (companionship with virtuous individuals), Dhamma Sappaya (access to suitable teachings), Utu Sappaya (favorable climate), Iriyapatha Sappaya (suitable physical movement), and Pubbe Katapunna Sappaya (past meritorious deeds). The current development of Wat Phothisomphon focuses on religious structures, spiritual activities, environmental maintenance, monk training, Buddhist propagation, and community engagement, all aimed at fostering inner peace and spiritual growth among the people. The application of the seven factors of Sappaya in temple development emphasizes creating an environment conducive to Buddhist practice, such as establishing serene spaces, utilizing alternative energy sources, promoting proper nutrition, enhancing human resource development, organizing Dhamma dissemination activities, and designing green spaces to cultivate a peaceful atmosphere. These efforts aim to balance the physical environment, individuals, and activities within the temple, ensuring its long-term sustainability. |
