| Abstract | This study analyzes Thailand’s role in promoting maritime security within the ASEAN framework, focusing on the management of overlapping maritime claims with Cambodia in the Koh Kut area. The objectives of this research are to analyze Thailand’s policies and measures for managing maritime disputes, assess their impact on maritime security in ASEAN, and propose peaceful approaches to resolving maritime disputes.A qualitative research methodology was employed, incorporating document analysis and semi-structured interviews with 25 experts.The findings indicate that Thailand’s policies emphasize regional cooperation, joint resource management, and adherence to international legal frameworks such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). However, several challenges remain, including political instability, differing interpretations of maritime boundaries, and a lack of interagency coordination. The case study of the Thailand–Malaysia Joint Development Area (MTJDA) highlights the importance of transparent governance and equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms. This study suggests that Thailand should strengthen trust-building through transparent policies, promote joint development initiatives, and align national strategies with ASEAN’s maritime security framework to ensure long-term sustainability. |
