Abstract This research investigates the intricate interplay between soft skills in communication, communication techniques, and the operational efficiency of internal auditors within the administrative domain of Khon Kaen Provincial Administration. Objectives include assessing internal auditors' proficiency in soft communication skills and their adeptness in employing various communication techniques in relation to operational efficiency. Additionally, it aims to analyze the nuanced relationship between these variables and audit efficiency, culminating in strategic recommendations for enhancing communication skills and techniques among internal audit practitioners. Through a rigorous quantitative methodology, data were collected from a diverse sample of 114 internal auditors using a comprehensive survey questionnaire. Statistical analyses, including descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analyses, were employed to scrutinize the findings. The results reveal a significant correlation between soft skills in communication, communication techniques, and auditor efficiency (p < 0.05). Horizontal communication emerges as the primary predictor of operational efficiency, followed closely by the cultivation of soft communication skills. The findings underscore the importance of effective communication techniques in enhancing the operational efficiency of internal auditors. Therefore, as discovered by research findings, there are guidelines for developing soft skills in communication; 1. the internal audit officers should apply appropriate language, 2. the internal audit officers should avoid investigative communication, and 3. the internal audit officers should focus on providing suggestions. In addition, supervisors should provide a friendly communication space and opportunities for internal audit officers to express their perspectives related to duty performance.
