Abstract Industrial sickness among the micro and small sector of Tripura, one of the most backward regions of India, has assumed a serious proportion and become a cause of anxiety for the policy makers of the state. In this background present study is designed with the object to examine the causes of industrial sickness in micro and small manufacturing enterprises in Tripura. A detailed survey among the sample units has been conducted. The analyses have been done with the help of statistical tools for identifying the factors affecting reasons for sickness. It is found that market demand, management issues, obsolete technology, diversion of funds, inadequate working capital, poor realization of debts, etc. are the major causes of sickness in micro and small sector of Tripura.
