Abstract This research investigates the factors of influence on the adoption of internet telephony amongst consumers in Thailand, using a model adapted from the Model of Adoption of Technology in the Household (MATH). It is found positive attitudinal factors, like perceived relative advantage and fun using the technology, have significant influence on the adoption while negative attitudinal factors like security and quality concerns show no correlation or predictive power towards the adoption of the technology in the sample. A significant number of respondents use internet telephony, and a majority also pays for internet telephony, effectively bypassing the traditional licensed telephony operators in Thailand. This information is of importance for telecommunication market players, regulators and operators.
